Vet Support started as an idea in Northern Ireland in 2016.

Funding from RCVS Mind Matters enabled selection and training and the service was launched locally in NI in 2017.

Training was delivered both initially and continues quarterly by a team of psychotherapists, some of whom are also veterinary volunteers with the group.

In 2019 Vet Support Scotland and Vet Support Ireland were launched and in 2021, the service was expanded to include emotional support to individuals undergoing RCVS Professional Conduct investigations. By 2023 the interest in the service had grown to the extent that local labels became redundant and the service was rebranded as www.VetSupport.me covering all of the UK and Ireland.
